Specialists in Power Transformer Insulation Condition Assessment

Welcome to homepage of ELTONG Engineering.

ELTONG Engineering specialises in using dielectric response measurement techniques for power transformer insulation condition assessment. We provide test service to companies who use power transformers. ELTONG Engineering Pty Ltd was incorporated in 2003 in Brisbane, Australia.

In an oil-paper insulated power transformer, water content and ageing in the paper insulation are the major factors that determine whether the unit can be used safely in its current and future operation. High water content in the paper insulation can significantly reduce the dielectric strength of the insulation, accelerate ageing in paper, and more dangerously it can cause water vapor bubbles when the unit is overloaded that may lead to flashover in the insulation. On the other hand, when the paper insulation is in the high level of ageing, the paper is fragile. In this situation, any winding movement caused by short circuit current or surge loading may lead to physical damage in the insulation and short circuit between the windings hence causing transformer catastrophic failure.

PDC and RVM tests have unique strength in detecting the water content and ageing in the paper insulation of a transformer. PDC (Polarisation Depolarisation Current measurement) and RVM (Return Voltage Measurement) are dielectric response measurements in time domain. The assessment from the tests can provide vital information for use of a transformer, condition based maintenance and condition based replacement.

ELTONG Engineering built and developed its own PDC and RVM equipment and data interpretation system. We have extensive first hand experiences that make us specialists in this area. In our test service we provide accurate estimate for water content and ageing level in paper insulation; our report gives helpful and reliable assessment results for our customers.

If you concern about the insulation condition of your transformer, and would like to discuss with us in detail to see if our test service suits your need, please call us today with the contact information given below.
